DAY TEN: If ya Can't Beat em' JUICE EM

16 oz Apple Cider Vinegar

16 oz Beet + carrot + apple

16 oz Collard Greens + Carrot +Apple + Asian Pear

16 oz Celery + Collard Greens + Asian Pear

LOTS of Green Tea

Potatoe + Carrot + Celery (about to make this one!)

At Perelandra I ran into a guy who told me about digestive enzymes for skin problems. So I bought some of those. Then i went to the dermatologist. She gave me some cortizone shots. Which made my deep deep cysts bleed. But apparently its going to make them go away in 24 hours! So thats exciting. Im almost done with a new painting today. Ive been going about painting with a new method. Ill start one thing and then move on to another thing, then come back to the first thing then start a third thing. Its much better for my mentality. I think it makes things less psychologically important, not every painting is a masterpiece. Which is a good way to do things, i think. Im really enjoying myself actually. Other than that I spent most of today I spent working on this new freelance job I have with Hikari. Im going over to her house tomorrow morning to show her what I've done. I think my skin is looking a lot better. But I worry that if I go back to my old eating habits things will just get bad again. Ive been doing a lot of research on Raw food. I think Im going to embark on an all raw diet for one month and see how my skin fares.

Ok. thats all for now, going to watch a flik and finish this painting i started

Day NINE: I feel Fine!

Today has been an amazing day. Seriously one of the best days I have had in months. I woke up and immediately starting working on a new piece. Then I had to ride into the city, so I grabbed some carrot, beet, apple juice on my way. Took my bike over the Manhattan bridge (which is bootiful ) Went to my friends place to drop off some stuff (got a freelancing gig!) then found this AMAZING sample sale just outside her apartment. I kid you not, i got three BEAUTIFUL vintage dresses for 15 bucks each. Im pretty against buying new clothes these days, because i could just make them.. but, this was simply too ridiculous to pass up. I can;t believe how lucky i got with these dresses. It was like I was meant to have them or something. Then I went to the doctor --- starting a new round of treatments.. Got a flat on the way, which sucked but its all good. Got some new paints and now I'm home sippin on some juice about to get lost in a world of neon colors.

LIFES GOOD

My doctor saw me one week ago, I was seriously breaking out.. it was embarrassing.. and today she said Yasmina, your skin looks great! What have you been doing? I told her about hte Juice feast, and she was like I can't believe it worked. ha!

Day Eight: Scared Straight!

I feel great! Just unreasonably happy. I love myself and my body and my mind and the world around me.

Ok. So last night I had some crazy dreams about eggs. EGGS! can you imagine? I was an egg, trying to grow an egg or something. Those who know me know that I really love eggs. Particularly fried eggs. I love the way when the yolk breaks it coats the whites, and I love putting salt and cumin on them both. Last night, this dream about eggs really got to me. I think this is the fast telling me again that I need to maintain more balance in my diet. I used to have eggs every day. Sometimes twice a day. I also had a dream about eating a wonderful raw salad. I could even feel myself chewing it. I woke up worried that I had broken my fast early. I wonder what that means....

Anyway, my skin is much smoother again today. Things are really starting to get better! I'm really happy, I can't believe how improved my skin is from just a week ago :-)

Day Seven: heaven

I am happy to report that I woke up today and touched my face ... to my surprise it is MUCH MUCH softer than it was yesterday. Ive still got some gross things coming through, but overall the bumpyness is going away :-)

This is BIG! I can't wait to see what it will look like a week from now :-)

I had more dreams about chocolate. Lots of chocolate. There was a time a few months ago where I was really endulging in chocolate every day. This was probably the worst thing I could have done to my body, and is probably the reason why Im dreaming so much about chocolate now. I am really starting to get it. This whole fast is about balance...

12 24 oz aloe vera juice (sweetened)

1 24 oz water

2 8 oz cabbage + carrot juice

3 16 oz bok choy, cucumber, apple, pear juice YUM!!

5 16 oz Spinach, Bok Choy, Pear

6 Green Tea with way too much maple syrup

After I endulged in that maple syrup, I couldn't fall asleep. I really think sugar might be the cause of my skin problems. I gotta get rid of my addiction to sugar.
So im trying to make more yummy green drinks. Ive been reading a lot about the beneficial properties of chlorophyll for people with athsma and allergies...

Today was a really good day. I tapered a pair of pants that I hadn't touched in two months. Now, they might just be my very favorite pair of pants. I also got a ton of great new music. New music is great because it always makes me want to work :-)

Day Six

My skin is lookin much better. I do feel some deep deep pimples coming out, which is gross and unpleasant, but in a few days they should be gone!

Ive been trying to wake up and drink three glasses of water before I do anything. I think its a good habit to take up. Ive got to go grocery shopping for some veggies and fruits... man this is getting expensive!

ok so juices for today

16 oz Bragg's acai infused apple cider vinegar (supposed to be really good for your skin)

16 0z Water Melon

16 0z Potatoe Apple carrot

17 oz Aloe Vera Juice

17 oz Aloe Vera Juice

12 oz Water Melon

16 oz Cucumber, Spinach, Apple

Another Day with lots of juice. I feel really fullll. Ive been learning a lot about the properties of fruits and vegetables. Everytime I try a new juice I can't help but google all the benefits of juicing it. Who woulda thunk this would be so educational? Potatoe juice is really interesting, the starch sits at the bottom, its kinda yummy like silt or something. Today I felt a lot of emotional detox coming up. It rained all day, so I sat around and read my book and did some easy stretching.

I have absolutely no hunger pangs. I'm peeing a TON. I still really want to chew something. foo
Tomorrow marks the half way point of my fast. !!
Can;t wait

Day Five

Man, Ive been neglecting this thing. OKay let me post the Juices for yesterday before I forget

9 am BM

930 10 oz CABBAGE + carrott + celery

11 14 oz cabbage + carrot celery

12 28 oz melon + kiwi juice

three hour nap

4 16 oz yummy green juice = spinach, carrot, apple, orange, celery
this was by far the best green juice I have made yet. Usually the green juices are bitter and i HATE getting them down, but this one was wonderful to sip sip sip on

8 oz plum + apple (my version of dessert)

Alright, so I tried cabbage juice. Which has amazing healing properties for people with skin disorders, ulcers and digestive problems. Let me tell you. Cabbage juice is absolutely disgusting. I almost vomited, I had to lie down for a good minute before I could finish the rest of my juice. I also read somewhere that it should be consumed within 60 seconds of being made. This seems a bit rushed, but I did it. Something about amino acids deteriorating if it is left to sit...

I oscillated between having no energy and feeling great. I also was experiencing some emotional detox, things that have been bothering me for a while came up, and I thought about them. I've resolved to have a heart-to-heart conversation with an old friend once this fast is over.

Hunger wise, I got nothin. Probably because Ive been drinking so much juice! I do however have cravings for really weird things that I haven't eaten in a long time (LAMB!) I also had a dream about a vegan chocolate chip cookie (i had one last week). I suspect this is a sign of the toxin leaving my body?

Total Juice approx 76 oz! whoa

Yesterday I spent the whole day napping, went out for a friend's birthday party and then came home and fell asleep. Today I feel amazing. So much energy, I can't believe it. I also feel much more calm than I have in months. The change in my mood is one of the best unintended consequences of this fast. Also, sweet fruit juice is great. Can't get enough of it.
Mentally, I feel focused and clear. I started working on a painting I hadn't touched in a month. Well, I think Im just going to try to ride this wave through the next few days.

Day Three (No) Food for Thought

Another day another day. I am starting to notice that I have real issues with tapping my teeth together and relaxing my jaw. Not having an excuse to chew is really starting to make me anxious. Its probably my body's way of relieving tension. I need to learn to relax my jaw.

Sleeping is very nice and relaxing. Each night I sleep better and better. It is quite wonderful, in fact. I used to wake up in the middle of the night, almost every night. Now, I sleep like a rock. As far as my skin goes, I am seriously breaking out! But I have the feeling its a good thing. The zits that have been festering beneath the surface for months seem to be coming to the surface. Hopefully, this will only last a few more days and then it will start to clear up. My energy level is low, but that's probably because I haven't had any juice yet today. My mood is certainly improving. I've been reading a lot. I've become more calm and more pleasant to interact with. just some small things i have noticed...

I'm off to the grocery store to get some fruits/veggies and some tea!

12 oz carrot beet juice

12 oz asian pear + lime + kiwi

Stages of Detoxification

The Different Juice Fasting Stages of Detoxification
A single cell within the human body is more complex than the most modern supercomputer. The process of removing a hundred thousand antigens, each with unique molecular properties, from trillions of functioning cells is indeed a complex process. Imagine three trillion cells being repaired during the function of countless biochemical processes needed for life. Even the best mechanics have to turn off the engine. Yet, the body has millions of micro mechanics that do this with ease.

One of the body’s automatic maintenance processes is the destruction of foreign microorganisms. When looking through a dark-field microscope, countless parasites are clearly visible. I observed parasites living inside blood cells. Several could be seen eating cholesterol, and I was amazed to see one swim. Watching lymphocytes moving in the blood was like a science-fiction movie. These complex, lymphocyte organisms attached themselves and engulfed toxins. As they did, their colorations flowed into fascinating patterns leaving me with a sense of wonder and respect for the miraculous ability and infinite complexity of the human body.

Fasting Detoxification Stages
Here is an overview of the detoxification stages during a juice fast. The time periods are a general estimation.

Stage 1 (Day 1 To Day 2)
On the first day of fasting, the blood sugar level drops below 70 mg/dl. To restore the blood to the normal glucose level, liver glycogen is converted to glucose and released into the blood. This reserve is enough for half a day. The body then reduces the basal metabolic rate (BMR). The rate of internal chemical activity in resting tissue is lowered to conserve energy. The heart slows and blood pressure is reduced. Glycogen is pulled from the muscle causing some weakness. The first wave of cleansing is usually the worst.

Headaches, dizziness, nausea, bad breath, glazed eyes and a heavily coated tongue are signs of the first stage of cleansing. Hunger can be the most intense in this period unless the enema is used which quickly assists the body into the fasting state by ending digestion in the colon.

Stage 2 (Day 3 To Day 7)
Fats, composed of transformed fatty acids, are broken down to release glycerol from the gliceride molecules and are converted to glucose. The skin may become oily as rancid oils are purged from the body. People with problem-free skin may have a few days of pimples or even a boil. A pallid complexion is also a sign of waste in the blood. Ketones are formed by the incomplete oxidation of fats. It is suspected that the ketones in the blood suppress the appetite by affecting the food-satiety center in the hypothalamus. You may feel hungry for the first few days of the fast. This effect is temporary. The desire to eat will disappear. Lack of hunger may last 40 to 60 days, depending on whether you are on water or juice.

The body embraces the fast and the digestive system is able to take a much-needed rest, focusing all of its energies on cleansing and healing. White blood cell and immune system activity increases. You may feel pain in your lungs. The cleansing organs and the lungs are in the process of being repaired. Periodically, the lymphatic system expels mucoid matter through the nose or throat. The volume excreted of this yellow-colored mucus can be shocking. The sinuses go through periods of being clogged, then will totally clear. The breath is still foul and the tongue coated. Within the intestine, the colon is being repaired and impacted feces on the intestinal wall start to loosen.

Stage 3 (Day 8 to Day 15)
On the latter part of an extended fast, you can experience enhanced energy, clear-mindedness and feel better than you have felt since childhood. On the downside, old injuries may become irritated and painful. This is a result of the body's increased ability to heal during fasting. If you had broken your arm 10 years before, there is scar tissue around the break. At the time of the break, the body's ability to heal was directly related to lifestyle. If you lived on a junk-food diet, the body's natural healing ability was compromised.

During fasting, the body's healing process is at optimum efficiency. As the body scours for dead or damaged tissue, the lymphocytes enter the older, damaged tissue secreting substances to dissolve the damaged cells. These substances irritate the nerves in the surrounding region and cause a reoccurrence of aches from previously injured areas that may have disappeared years earlier. The pain is good as the body is completing the healing process. The muscles may become tight and sore due to toxin irritation. The legs can be the worst affected, as toxins accumulate in the legs. Cankers are common in this stage due to the excessive bacteria in the mouth. Daily gargling with salt and water will prevent or heal cankers.

Stage 4 (Day 16 to Day 30)
The body is completely adapted to the fasting process. There is more energy and clarity of mind. Cleansing periods can be short with many days of feeling good in between. There are days when the tongue is pink and the breath is fresh. The healing work of the organs is being completed. After the detoxification mechanisms have removed the causative agent or render it harmless, the body works at maximum capacity in tissue proliferation to replace damaged tissue. While a short fast will reduce the symptoms, a longer fast can completely heal. Homeostatic balance is at optimum levels. The lymphatic system is clean except for a rare discharge of mucus through the nose or throat. After day 20, the mind is affected. Heightened clarity and emotional balance are felt at this time. Memory and concentration improve.

Stage 5 (Breaking the Fast)
The sticky, toxic, mucoid coating on the intestinal wall is loose, and the first meal frees it from the intestinal wall. Toxins enter the blood through the colon. The gallbladder dumps its waste in a heavy discharge of bile. This can cause an instant bowel movement upon eating followed by intense diarrhea. If the symptoms are too uncomfortable, an enema will help.

Day Two

Woke up feeling really tense in my jaw muscles! Whoa what I feeling. My teeth also feel extraordinarily large. Holy crap, my tongue is painted with some mucusy stuff. egh.

9 am blood? in my BM? This might be a cause for concern. It might also just be some toxins leaving my body. Not sure yet, will do some research. Oh! this is probably a result of the beets I had yesterday. phew. gave myself a bit of a scare.

10 am 1/2 bottle of GT Kombucha

11 am 12 oz beet + apple

12 pm purchased 12 oz bok choy + collard green+ kale + apple blend

Day One

Day One

opened my eyes to a fantastical fantasy of a morning. i have tried ever so care full ly to wean myself off solid food for two days now. this weaning business calls to mind a morning car ride in kindergarten when my insufferable mother mercilessly informed that my thumb sucking days have exceeded expectations and i must desist or my appearance would take on one of a horse by my fifth birthday.

Yesterday I used the juicer three times. I played around with carrots, beets, lemons and apples in a variety of water cocktails.

I will probably record every gruesome detail of my fast so be prepared for the anal (and) annuls.

9am M of B

10am 12 0z: 1/2 red grape juice + 1/2 water

12 oz water

10 40 12 oz: 1/3 melon 1/3 water 1/3 lemon ginger

12 pm much needed bathing - skin has started to smell a bit like curry, i expect this is a result of the toxic toxins rising to the surface

12 40 12 oz: 1/3 melon +2/3 water

1 30 12 0z water

2 light stretching. feeling tense in muscles

4 30 12 oz beet celery water apple

water

1/2 bottle Purchased GT Kombucha

melon juice 8 oz

Lemon Ginger Tea

8 30 12 oz kale + carrots + red pepper (too much red pepper)

Okay, so I had ALOT of liquid today. I think it was probably because I wanted to avoid the hunger pangs, which surprisingly didn't hit me at all. The hardest part of this is the need to simply stick something in my mouth and chew. I just really want to use my jaw muscles! I think that probably means I have some sort of oral fixation, or I need to learn to relax my jaw or something... hmm..

Two Weeks on a Juice Fast

Whoa! I totally forgot about this blog!

I was about to make a new blog so I could record my juice/water intake over the next two weeks. So I'll just do it here.

I am embarking on a juice fast in an attempt to detox my body and get rid of skin problems (pimples, excema, scars etc) once and for all.

Also, as a child I had a few severe athsma attacks when playing in hot weather. I also had a extraordinarily large number of allergies. From what i can remember an allergy needle test showed I was allergic to types of grass, trees, dander, dust, peanuts, and animal hair.

Fasting is a powerful therapeutic process that can help people recover from mild to severe health conditions. Some of the most common ones are high blood pressure, asthma, allergies, chronic headaches, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), irritable bowel syndrome, adult onset diabetes, heart disease, degenerative arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, acne, uterine fibroids, benign tumours, and systemic lupus erythematosus.

Fasting provides a period of concentrated physiological rest during which time the body can devote its self-healing mechanisms to repairing and strengthening damaged organs. The process of fasting also allows the body to cleanse cells of accumulated toxins and waste products.

Fasting gives the digestive tract time to completely rest and strengthen its mucosal lining. A healthy intestinal mucosal lining is necessary for preventing the leakage of incompletely digested proteins into the bloodstream, thereby offering protection against autoimmune conditions. A healthy digestive tract also helps to protect the blood and inner organs against a variety of environmental and metabolic toxins.

I bought a juicer today. It cost me $65 bones. Its from Hamilton beach

HOW TO: JUICE FAST

  • Proponents of juice fasting suggest fasting only during the warmer months of the year. Spring is thought to be the best time of the year for juice fasting.

  • Seven or more days before the fast, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, sugar, dairy, wheat, animal meat, fish, and eggs are typically reduced or eliminated from the diet. This preparation diet often consists mainly of organic fruits, vegetables, and beans.

  • Between 32 and 64 ounces of juice is usually recommended per day during the fast. The juice is sipped throughout the day. Typical fruits and vegetables include celery, carrot, kale, cabbage, apple, pineapple, cranberry, spinach, beet, and greens. Citrus fruits are often avoided.

  • Approximately 6 glasses of room temperature or warm filtered water is often recommended in addition to the juice.

  • Organic fruits and vegetables are usually recommended. If organic produce isn't available, practitioners suggest peeling the skin off fruits and vegetables or washing vegetables with a non-toxic produce cleaner, usually available at health food stores.

  • Freshly juiced fruits and vegetables are preferred, but if unavailable, practitioners suggest buying it from the health food store or juice bar as fresh as possible.

  • Green vegetables and sprouts contain the pigment chlorophyll, which juice proponents believe are especially beneficial during a juice fast.

  • A combination of fruits and vegetables is recommended.

  • Variations on the strict juice fast include eating one meal a day in addition to the juice.
  • Certain fruits and vegetables and their parts should not be juiced, such as the pits of peaches, apricots, cherries, and other fruits, apple seeds, citrus peels, carrot and rhubarb tops, tough skins (such as kiwi, pineapple, mangoes), and bananas and avocados.
  •
